Business Simulations You Aren’t Playing Against the Computer

Real time asset bidding
Polishing strategy for the next tender
Breaking down silos is the number one step toward innovation and embracing change. With that agenda in mind, the BP Shipping communications team set out to develop business simulations that help executives across the organization understand roles, responsibilities and challenges from other business functions - for example a finance executive putting on an operations hat for 2 hours. SpotMe was brought in to design and deploy the simulation concept, and we did it with a twist.

Instead of the usual play-against-the-computer-with-10-predefined-scenarios scheme, we decided to go for a more experiential design in which participants’ inputs and decisions simulated the current situation (schedule, real-time market pricing, resources availability).  Participants had to interact face-to-face with other teams and individuals (placing bids, enquiring availability, seeking approval) in order to advance through the simulation. Moderated by BP Shipping VPs, the resulting experience was extremely engaging.

This participant-driven business simulation concept was developed jointly with Some Bright Spark and Venues Event Management, and has been deployed to 4 events in Singapore, London and Chicago.
